- Queensland Kid’s charity was established to address gaps in services for Queensland children and their families. Queensland Kids inaugural project is to build Hummingbird House – Queensland’s only children’s hospice.
- Hummingbird House will meet the critical need to provide care for children with life limiting conditions and their families – a home away from home – to access respite and hospice care when home or hospital care can no longer meet their needs.
- Hummingbird House will operate as an 8-bed, 24/7 medical facility including physician and nursing support, pain and symptom management, both scheduled and emergency respite care and end-of-life care.
- This facility will be fully accredited and have strong links with the Paediatric Palliative Care Service at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.
- Hummingbird House is still to be built. All plans have reached finalisation phase and the project start date is around the corner.
- Hummingbird House will be situated at Curwen Terrace, Chermside, on a 1.25 acre parcel of land within Wesley Mission Brisbane campus that had been earmarked for rejuvenation and a future community project. You will notice a tremendous amount of change at this location over the next few months….watch this space!
- Uni-span will be involved in various ways and forms of this transformation, starting with volunteering employee time to help source construction supplies/services, assist with temporary fencing of the visitors viewing area and to help construct basic requirements planned for and situated around the building.
