M4 Widening

M4 Widening

WestConnex is a 33km motorway that will link Sydney’s west with the airport and Port Botany precincts. The M4 Widening stage includes widening the existing M4 motorway to four lanes, constructing ramp upgrades, maintaining the existing interchanges and widening the Granville viaduct and other bridges, opening to traffic in 2017.

The headstock had to be constructed besides the on ramp, therefore traditional shoring methods were not possible.

To overcome this project challenge, Uni-span designed a MK truss shoring system with custom designed and manufactured column brackets to support the MK product.

We worked closely with our client to perfect this engineering solution.

The Project Gallery images speak for themselves.

Due to this upgrade, it has been estimated that 163,800 vehicles per average weekday (by 2031) will travel on the M4, versus the 100,000 vehicles a day that use this motorway at present. This widening project will result in improved delay times, due to the ease of congestion.
