Uni-span partner Thiess again to supply scaffold for Townsville Hospital expansion
Work has begun in earnest on the Townsville hospital Expansion. The major expansion project currently underway is the North Block development. This will include an expanded Emergency Department (ED), short-stay unit and Medical Imaging Department (MID), and will consist of a 34 bed Maternity Unit on the first floor. The building is being designed with shell space for future expansion.
Several major challenges faced by the Uni-span team on site will include maintaining:
- Existing hospital facilities during the expansion.
- Safe access for hospital patients, staff and general public in line with recent amendments to the scaffolding code.
- Ongoing co-ordination between the contractor, Hospital and Uni-span when scheduling material deliveries to various work fronts on a live site.
All facets of scaffolding will be required on this project, from conventional builds of edge protection, perimeter containment to Birdcage scaffolds and Cantilever applications.
The total tonnage supplied to the site will be in the vicinity of 480 tonnes when fully erected and should complement the overall building phase of construction until completion.
Uni-span is delighted to be working on another Thiess project having recently been awarded the Lotus Glenn Correctional Precinct earlier this year.
We look forward to continuing our association with Thiess and the Queensland Government on future projects.
